Former Governor Given 53.5M Fine or 12 Years in Jail!
Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been sentenced to 12 years in prison or pay a fine of 53.5 million shillings for graft. His wife, Susan Wangari has been, handed a one-year jail term or a fine of 500,000 shillings.
Waititu was sentenced to serve 5 years in jail or pay a fine of 2.5 million shillings. Additionally, the court posed a mandatory fine of 51 million shillings in default to serve another 7 years in prison after he was convicted for irregularly awarding tenders in Kiambu County in February 2018 during his tenure as the County boss.
His wife Susan has been sentenced to serve 1 year or pay a fine of 500,000 shillings while their co-accused Luka Mwangi Wahinya a former Chief Officer, Roads, Transport, Public Works and Utilities to serve 2 years in prison or pay a fine of 1 million shillings and a mandatory fine of 20 million shillings in default to serve 5 years in prison.
The directors of Testimony Enterprises Limited that benefitted from the fraudulent tender worth 588 million shillings, Charles Chege Mbuthia and Beth Wangeci Mburu were jailed for 4 years or pay a fine of 2 million shillings with a mandatory fine of 294 million shillings and 3 years in jail or pay a fine of 1.4 million shillings respectively.
Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzyoki also directed that Waititu and his co-accused be barred from appointment or holding any public office for a period of 10 years.
